The public space in front of the McCord Museum, Victoria Street, is connected to Sherbrooke Street. This is a prime location because its north-south orientation combined with the difference in scale between Sherbrooke and Victoria creates a wind funnel. The Urban Forest installation took advantage of this opportunity.
To respect the design of each urban tree, ribbons of light are suspended between the fabric ribbons, all hung on the metal structure. The integration, based on the bouquet of the tree, is ideal regardless of the wind blowing.
IMPACT
of light
The light is integrated and diffused from inside the bouquet of ribbons. The ribbons are revealed at night. A diffused light makes it possible to distribute it also on the installation. The light distribution is 165 degrees, allowing to light a large number of ribbons in a progressive way.
USER
experience
The urban path in the museum's alley, interspersed with urban trees, is intriguing and tempered by the wind. The light also participates in the urban rhythm of the alley. The light follows the movements and creates new ones thanks to the projected shadows of the ribbons.
